Colour Matching
Halo Hair Toppers
Hair Colour Matching Guide
Step 1: Assess in Natural Light
Always check the hair colour in daylight, not under artificial lighting. Stand near a window or go outside — indoor light can make colours look warmer (yellow/red) or cooler (ashy/blue).
Step 2: Identify the Base Level (Lightness/Darkness)
Hair levels range from 1 (black) to 10 (lightest blonde). Compare the mid-lengths and ends, not the roots. Use a colour ring or swatch book to hold next to the hair whichever disappears most naturally is your match.
Step 3: Determine the Tone / Undertone
There are three main tone families: • Cool / Ash – Silvery, beige, smoky (blue, green, violet undertones) • Neutral Balanced, soft beige (mix of warm & cool) • Warm / Golden Honey, caramel, copper (yellow, red, orange undertones) If your hair reflects gold/red in sunlight → choose a warm tone. If it looks silvery or beige → choose a cool or neutral tone.
Step 4: Match to the Mid-Lengths
When blending a topper or extensions, match to the middle section of your natural hair this is the colour most visible when worn. You can slightly tone or root-shadow either the topper or your natural hair for a seamless blend.
Step 5: Check Under Different Lighting
Test the match in multiple settings: natural daylight, indoor white light, and with flash or ring light especially for product photos.
Step 6: Customise if Needed
You can tone, gloss, or add root melts to refine the match: • Use purple/blue shampoo to reduce brassiness.
• Apply a demi-permanent gloss to adjust warmth or coolness.
• Add lowlights or a soft root shadow for balayage or regrowth blending.
Step 7: Photograph for Online Matching
For remote colour matching, take 3 clear photos in daylight:
1. Full head (natural fall)
2.Mid-length close-up
3. Hair part & crown
Avoid filters or direct sunlight, and compare to
your Halo Hair Toppers colour ring or swatch chart.
